During 1858, the 7.3 acre parcel of land, which was then farmland, was acquired by the federal government as a staging site for the second Minot Lighthouse construction.
Minot Lighthouse in internationally renowned for its endearing 1-4-3 signal, which conveys the message “I Love You”. Now, more than a century and a half later, Minots light still warns sea captains, fishermen, and pleasure craft of the treacherous ledges off the Cohasset coast.

All were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994
